Nicotine is the active and addictive ingredient in E Liquid, and it usually comes in 0mg, 3mg, 6mg, 12mg and 18mg for freebase nicotine products. This is slightly different for Salt Nicotine based E Liquid which typically comes in 10mg and 20mg.
Nicotine is the reason why people smoke cigarettes, there is an old saying in the tobacco industry; “People smoke for the nicotine, and die from the tar”. With vaping you get all the nicotine you want, but without any of the poison that is produced by burning tobacco. Nicotine is still an addictive substance, so it make sense to control how much of it is going into your body. With traditional cigarettes, this was never really possible to do, but with the electronic version there are many different nicotine strenghts to choose from. This allows for much greater control of ones nicotine intake levels.
The smoothness, or the harshness of the throat hit is essentially determined by the nicotine level. When smokers first make the switch from smoking to an electronic cigarette they usually like to vape e-liquid with a higher nicotine strength such as an 18mg in freebase nicotine, or 20mg in salt based nicotine. However, with the more advanced, and increasingly powerful vape devices that are being released on the market, smokers are finding themselves reducing their nicotine strengths as the months pass by after the switch.
You will find that nicotine also contributes to the flavour of your vape. Too much nicotine, and your e-liquid can start tasting a bit spicy, a bit peppery, and if you have too little nicotine you won’t get that satisfying hit that everyone craves from smoking analogue cigarettes.
What nicotine strengths should you choose?
If you smoke more than 20+ cigarettes a day, or if you smoke a brand of cigarette that is strong such as Marlboro Red or Benson & Hedges Gold, you should be choosing 18mg nicotine strength in your eliquid.
If you smoke between 10-20 cigarettes a day we advise that you choose a 12mg nicotine strength.
If you smoke less than 10 cigarettes a day then we advise starting out on 6mg nicotine strength.
If you would like to go for an inbetween strength like 9mg for instance, which is actually not a normal strength that you can purchase easily, then all you would need to do is take an 18mg 10ml nicotine eliquid, and a 0mg 10ml nicotine liquid, and mix them together in an empty bottle to achieve that strength.

Around two years ago or so the UK vape market was a lucrative market on an upwards trend. Prices were fair, and the consumer demand was growing rapidly across the board. You would see vape shops popping up all over the place, and you could pretty much guarantee that your local town centre would either have a vape shop, or be on the verge of one opening. Okay, so maybe I am being a little harsh, however this kind of trading has driven prices to an all time low, and shredding all kind of profit out of vape products. A price war has ensued leaving vape shop owners high and dry. Only the larger chains are making a dime, as they can buy larger volumes of stock to compete. Poor Mr independent shop owner is going out of business… so where does a potential new vaper go to get their products? Most probably Amazon or Ebay right? Price Price Price. Crap Crap Crap.
This is the main reason why the UK market is now saturated with fake products,awful cheap e-liquid, and decent quality brands are struggling to keep up with the price drops.
Remember there are over 3 million people who vape in the UK, that means there are 7 million people who currently still smoke. Ok, so this is an ever reducing number due to generational change, and the uprising of vaping.
